Single Touch Payroll begins on 1 July 2018

General practices may be aware of the introduction of Single Touch Payroll (STP), which will start on 1 July 2018. The ATO wants to remind employers with 20 or more employees on their payroll as of 1 April that they may need to report through STP this year.

The ATO has provided guidance on their website to help – including who you should and shouldn’t include in the count. Employers do not have to report the headcount information to the ATO but should keep a copy for their own records.

Single Touch Payroll is a reporting change that will allow employers to report tax and super information to the ATO from their own payroll software. Employers can visit www.ato.gov.au/stp for detailed information about STP, including a fact sheet, checklist and how to do the headcount.
