Not too late to vaccinate for free

Queenslanders should take advantage of free vaccines to protect themselves and their loved ones from serious respiratory illnesses.

Soaring influenza cases show the need for Queenslanders to take advantage of their free flu jabs and get vaccinated now.

“For the first time this year, we have more patients in Queensland hospitals with influenza than with COVID,” AMA Queensland President Dr Nick Yim said.

“The best way to protect yourself and your family and friends from infection or serious illness is to get vaccinated.

“The Queensland Government has very sensibly made flu jabs free for all Queenslanders this year and AMA Queensland encourages everyone to take advantage.

“Check in with your GP to make sure all your vaccinations are up to date.

“We had almost 5,700 new flu cases last week in Queensland, along with 833 RSV notifications, 1,600 COVID cases and 226 whooping cough cases.

“We have more than 250 people in our hospitals with the flu, 80 per cent of whom have not been vaccinated.

“The message is clear – take advantage of the free flu vaccinations and eligible people, particularly pregnant women, should get the free whooping cough vaccine.

“These vaccines are safe and can help prevent you or your loved ones from getting seriously ill.”
