AMA Tasmania is pleased to announce Dr John Davis, Hobart based General Practitioner, has been elected overnight as the President of the Australian Medical Association Tasmania. His term as President will begin immediately.

“Dr Davis is an excellent choice for the President of the AMA Tasmania, and the Board looks forward to working with him over the coming few months particularly in driving the State Election Health Platform,” said outgoing President Dr Stuart Day

Dr Davis also sits as a member of Tasmanian General Practice Forum.

Australian Medical Association Tasmania provides a vital role in servicing the professional needs of medical practitioners throughout the State. By our constitution, we are also 'the' prime body in Tasmania representing the interests of our patients and the whole community on health issues.

Tasmanians deserve high quality, accessible public health services, and political parties must support long-term strategies that focus on this outcome. Our healthcare staff must be supported in delivering frontline care, and we need a strategic plan for our public hospitals moreover, community health services.

The AMA identifies five critical areas of broad health policy that deserve cross-party political support:

• Sustainable and effective health governance and policy development.
• Sustainable healthcare facilities and infrastructure.
• Sustainable healthcare workforce.
• Sustainable health funding based on activity and community needs.
• Accessible, high-quality health services for all Tasmanians.

Dr Davis in his role as President AMA Tasmania intends to hold the state government strictly to their election promises in line with AMA Tasmania’s election platform.
