Extended border restrictions

The AMA Tasmania has welcomed the Tasmanian State Government's decision to extend border restrictions until at least 1 December 2020.

Tasmania has watched on with grave concern as other states including QLD, VIC, NSW and now New Zealand have struggled under the burden of further COVID-19 outbreaks.

This extended border restriction sends a clear message that not only is the Premier committed to the health and safety of our frontline health care workers but the broader community of Tasmania.

The AMA has called on all governments to commit to zero healthcare worker deaths. We make that call once again.

AMA Tasmania President Dr Helen McArdle added, "of course we recognise that while these tough but necessary measures will help protect our frontline health care workers and the larger Tasmanian community, these extended border restrictions will impact the tourism and hospitality sectors which is why we congratulate the government on the implementation of the "Make yourself at home travel voucher" campaign designed to help drive intrastate visitation, and support and encourage Tasmanians to get out and experience our home state. An excellent opportunity for us all to revisit areas of Tasmania, particularly our world-famous National Parks and wilderness." >>>ENDS
