AMA supports reduction in Mersey emergency department hours

 

Plans to further reduce hours of operation for the Mersey Community Hospital at Latrobe from next week have attracted some criticism, but not from the Australian Medical Association (AMA). AMA Tasmania president Dr Helen McArdle says staff in the department are under incredible stress, working many extra hours and facing burnout, which would ultimately impact on the quality of service to patients. Listen as Dr McArdle joins Martin Agatyn to discuss the situation, stating the Mersey emergency department may never return to a full 24/7 service.
