Much of AMA Queensland’s policy work is undertaken by committees. Our committees work to develop policy and drive change in areas of special interest.

Council of General Practice

The purpose of the AMA Queensland Council of General Practice is to formulate policy, drive medico-political change and provide high quality and timely advice to the association in the area of general practice. Federally, the AMA Council of General Practice advocates for general practitioner members nationally on issues of policy.

Visiting Medical Officers

The AMA Queensland Visiting Medical Officers’ (VMO) committee discusses terms and conditions, as well as any issues currently faced by VMOs, including contract negotiations, industrial disputes and issues of public health policy.

Ethics and Medico-Legal

AMA Queensland’s Ethics and Medico-Legal Committee formulates policy and drives change in the area of ethics and the law.  Its main purpose is to advise AMA Queensland Council on matters of concern.

Council of Doctors in Training

AMA Queensland's Council of Doctors in Training advocates for all junior doctors and students, promoting equality and driving beneficial change in medical education, training and employment.

AMA Queensland's Council of Doctors in Training:

• Advocate on key workforce issues impacting Doctors in Training such as safe hours, junior doctor mental health, merit-based recruitment and bullying and harassment
• Consult with our union partner, Australian Salaried Medical Officers' Federation Queensland (ASMOFQ) and provide crucial input into the negotiation of Medical Officers' Certified Agreement (MOCA) on behalf of junior doctors
• Provide input into key policy submissions around junior doctor workforce and training issues
• Produce the annual Resident Hospital Health Check, detailing how hospitals around the state are treating Doctors in Training 
• Deliver annual professional development programs to help junior doctors get the competitive edge in an increasingly crowded employment market, including the Junior Doctor Conference and free junior doctor member seminars/webinars
