Visiting medical officer

ASMOFQ (the Australian Salaried Medical Officers Federation Queensland) in partnership with AMA Queensland provides workplace relations support for all doctors working in the public health system. Our core business is lobbying State and Federal Government decision-makers to ensure doctors have a safe, fair and equitable working environment.

ASMOFQ offers representation for Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs) during award and contract negotiations, industrial disputes and issues of public health policy. We fight to improve and maintain the working rights and conditions of doctors employed in the public health system.

Through AMA Queensland and ASMOFQ, a VMO Committee has formed to understand and represent the interests of VMOs and is currently in discussions with Queensland Health about negotiating a new award and certified agreement for VMOs. Throughout this process we will continue to consult with and represent our members to achieve a fair and equitable agreement which will form VMOs employment entitlements

VMOs can have peace of mind knowing that they can access unlimited, free access to the support of our team who can assist members to understand Queensland Health’s complex employment contracts and billing processes.

AMA Queensland VMO Committee

In order to influence change, AMA Queensland and ASMOFQ established a VMO Committee. The committee is compromised of VMOs employed by Queensland Health, and a wide range of specialities working in the private sector. The diverse group can ensure your voice is heard.

As the current contracts for VMOs are to be reviewed by Queensland Health in 2021 it is vital that we hear the opinions and concerns of as many VMO members as possible. We currently have the support of ASMOFQ in undertaking this task.

Please contact the VMO secretariat, Lisa O'Donnell, if you wish to find out more or participate via l.odonnell@amaq.com.au or 3872 2222.

We urge you to encourage other colleagues to contact us and raise any issues they wish us to address as a committee.
