Primary’s move to private billing ‘no surprise’

AMA Vice President, Dr Tony Bartone, says it is no surprise that health care giant, Primary Health Care – a long-time champion of bulk billing - is trialling private billing at one of its medical centres.

Patients at Phillip Medical and Dental Centre in Canberra are being charged $90 for a weekday visit and $100 on Saturdays. Pensioners and concession card holders are exempt.

The move comes as the Turnbull Government signalled that the Medicare rebate freeze would remain until at least 2020, and just days after the AMA released its updated medical services and fees list.
