AMA(SA) Councillors elected to Federal Council

The AMA membership has elected a new Federal Council to begin its term from August 2024.

Three members of AMA(SA) Council have been elected to Federal Council this week.

Psychiatrist and Immediate Past President Dr Michelle Atchison, paediatric neurologist Dr Clair Pridmore and orthopaedic surgeon Professor Ted Mah have retained their positions on Federal Council.

The new Council begins its term next month, under the leadership of the President and Vice President who will be elected at AMA National Conference on 4 August.

It comprises five practice group representatives, 12 specialty group representatives, seven state nominees, three ordinary members, one independent representative, and one representative each for the Australian Medical Students’ Association and the Australian Indigenous Doctors’ Association.

Former AMA(SA) Doctors in Training Chair Dr Ekta Paw, now resident in Queensland, has also been elected.

The Federal Council is the heart of our advocacy and critical to ensuring we can and continue to fulfil our mission of ‘leading Australia’s doctors, promoting Australia’s health’. I am exceptionally pleased that Michelle, Clair and Ted will represent their speciality groups and South Australia’s clinicians and patients on the national stage.
