President of the AMA Dr John Davis agreed with the measures announced in Parliament today by the Minister regarding changes to level 10 K block. Concentrating general medicine beds in the one area will allow for better management of patients.
As a consequence, it is likely there will be the possibility for expansion of the Emergency Department, a measure that is sorely needed. Dr Davis said the all-important point now is the time frame.
The AMA also acknowledges that any money being spent in the mental health sector is a benefit. Dr Davis said, “In mental health as in other areas of health we need a coordinated approach from acute care to community care, some of these extra facilities should help pave the way towards this”.
