AMA submission to the Review of Australian Government Health Workforce Programs

While there is no formal submission process as part of the Review of Australian Government Health Workforce Programs, the AMA has made some specific comment on a number of medical workforce programs to improve access to medical care for patients throughout the country.

The AMA has made a submission to the Review of Australian Government Health Workforce Programs which includes recommendations to improve the effectiveness of the Bonded Medical Places scheme.

The AMA believes that a robust system of financial incentives that provides support during medical school and then delivers additional assistance to doctors once they commence work in an under-serviced area would be a very powerful recruitment tool.

Importantly, it would provide an ongoing level of support and this would be particularly relevant to key career decisions made by doctors after graduation from medical school.
