The AMA submission calls for the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) to be considered when designing and implementing policies and programs for people with a disability, particularly those that relate to transport and communication, such as electronic services like the Internet and emergency and other health services. Along with physical transport needs, it is essential that NDIS participants are provided with appropriate telecommunications infrastructure, including high-speed broadband.
The AMA submission notes the additional challenges faced by Indigenous Australians in accessing and navigating the NDIS, and calls for housing issues to be addressed as a priority, for services to be embedded within local communities and, where possible, for the upskilling of community members to allow them to contribute to the care and support of their community.
