AMA Submission - Proposed alternative models for allocating places

The AMA provided a submission to the Department of Health consultation Residential aged care - proposed alternative models for allocating places.

In the submission the AMA highlights some of the major issues with ACAR and home care package systems and expresses the view that the fundamental issue with the aged care system at the moment is lack of funding and resources. AMA doesn’t support the consumer-controlled model in residential aged care and rejects the premise of prioritisation queues.

AMA again calls for ensuring health and safety for older frail Australians and more publicly available information for consumers to be able to make an informed choice about their care.
