AMA submission to the Pharmacy Board on pharmacist prescribing

The AMA supports collaborative models of health care where non-medical health practitioners may prescribe within their scope of practice in a medically-led and delegated team environment. The AMA opposes independent prescribing by non-medical health practitioners; any model of prescribing by pharmacists associated with a retail pharmacy; and any expansion of pharmacist prescribing to Schedule 4 and Schedule 8 medicines outside of the COAG/AHPRA governance framework agreed by all Health Ministers in 2016.
