Changes to anti-discrimination legislation
Two important changes to Queensland’s Anti-Discrimination Act came into effect on Monday 29 April.
- Strengthening of the vilification laws
- Closing the gaps in protections from discrimination for trans, gender diverse and intersex people.
These updates will help modernise the law to ensure it keeps pace with contemporary community expectations and work to make Queensland safer and more inclusive.

As a reminder to Practice owners, there are responsibilities around the distribution and accessibility of your practice policies as an employer. These include:
- the Policy needs to be accessible by all employees
- the Policy should be read and understood by all employees
- written acknowledgement received from all employees in confirmation of having read and understood each policy on their employee file.
Implementation of policy/procedures and other guiding documentation is critical to mitigating risk at your practice.
