Queensland's Women and Girls Health Strategy fails to consider the role of general practice in holistic healthcare
AMA Queensland provided preliminary feedback on a briefing by Queensland Health on its draft Women and Girls Health Strategy in July 2023 and continues to push for greater recognition and inclusion of general practice and holistic health care for all women and girls in the final version of the Strategy.
AMA Queensland provided preliminary feedback on a briefing by Queensland Health on its draft Women and Girls Health Strategy in July 2023.
Key concerns identified included the Strategy's failure to recognise the central role of general practice in the provision of holistic health care for women and key policy gaps in the strategy, including regarding the leading causes of death for women (dementia and heart disease), osteoporosis, incontinence, social determinants of health, maternity services and birth model choice and abortion and contraception services.
AMA Queensland will continue to push for greater recognition and inclusion of general practice and holistic health care for all women and girls in the final version of the Strategy once released by the Government (anticipated in March 2024).
