Workplace Relations services 

We are able to offer members general and comprehensive workplace relations and human resource management support. From employment-related matters when starting your own private practice, to partnering with you as your employees travel through their employment with you and notifying employees when selling your practice, we can help members every step of the way. 

The Workplace Relations Team consists of three services:

WR Support

Workplace Relations Support

The team offers support to members on the employment lifecycle relating to:

  • Outlining your obligations as an employer under the Fair Work Act 2009 and your responsibilities as a person conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU) in regards to the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (Qld).
  • Highlighting key processes in the attraction, recruitment, selection and on-boarding phase of opening and operating a practice.
  • Interpreting Modern Awards to assist members with specific queries relating to your practice and team. Including but not limited to:
    • leave entitlements
    • determining when overtime applies to an employee
    • where to find classification definitions
    • what allowances may be applicable to your staff. 
  • Providing general guidance on how you should refresh employees on practice policies and trainings.
  • Areas of concern and what needs to be considered in relation to your staff when selling or closing down your practice. 
WR Toolkit

Workplace Relations Toolkit

In addition, we have a multitude of resources and templates available to our AMA Queensland members to assist them throughout the employee lifecycle. These resources can be accessed by signing up to our 12 month workplace relations toolkit subscription or by purchasing the resources separately. As part of the Workplace Relations Toolkit package, subscribers receive the following inclusions. 

  • Workplace Relations Manuals, uploaded onto individual USB sticks that contain documents of which include: 
    • An employer manual and ‘one-stop’ guide for employers and managers in private practice; an Employee Policy and Procedure Manual that provides a set guide for all employees; 
    • policy and procedure templates and information on employee entitlements; 
    • Starting and Maintaining a Private Practice manual which provides checklists and templates to assist you in the recruitment and selection process, managing your finances and making critical business decisions. 
  • Contract templates that can be purchased for administration and nursing staff.
  • Complimentary contract drafting throughout the 12 month subscription when practices choose to on-board new employees
  • Free attendance to all webinars and in person events hosted by the Workplace relations team throughout your subscription. 
WR Consultancy

Workplace Relations Consultancy

Through our consultancy, we can provide comprehensive advice and guidance to members on matters relating, but not limited, to:

  • The performance management process and what steps need be taken to ensure practices remain compliant with the process.
  • Termination of employment relating to serious misconduct and what steps practices need to take to ensure they do not expose themselves to Unfair Dismissal or General Protections claims being submitted against them to the Fair Work Commission.
  • Drafting documentation and talking notes for members throughout the performance management processes, during meetings relating to termination, and when practices may be required to have difficult conversations with employees.
  • Assistance in training practice management staff in areas such as work health and safety, leadership, performance management and workplace bullying.
  • Practice policy and procedures and determining whether they require updating and re-distribution to staff by undertaking a review of what you already have in place.
