Welcome 2022 Interns

Congratulations on joining the ranks of the medical profession. Your journey through medical school has come to an end, and you’re now at the starting point of your next adventure. It’s exciting, but also nerve-wracking. Be eager to learn, not just clinical knowledge and skills but some of the other important aspects such as leadership, communication, and how to look after yourselves. You’ve graduated into the workforce at a difficult time with many changes in our hospitals due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Take an interest in your patients, and an interest in the reason management decisions are made. Reflect regularly and strive for improvement, not perfection.

We know that medical training is not without its difficulties. There is increasing competition for training programs, CV buffering, the constant demand for unachievable perfection, and all the stress associated with the current pandemic. AMA Queensland is here to support you during this difficult transition, and throughout your medical career. We also offer great opportunities to get involved in the medical community, and advocate for improvements we all recognise are needed. I would encourage everyone to join AMA Queensland and consider getting involved in the Committee of Doctors in Training (CDT). Applications to become a hospital representative or join one of our many special interest groups will be opening in February, so keep an eye on your e-mail. Doctors in Training have a unique set of needs within medicine, and our voice is stronger with all of you involved with AMA Queensland and the CDT.
