Foundation thanks Dr Steve Hambleton

The AMA Queensland Foundation sincerely thanks Dr Steve Hambleton for giving more than 13 years of service to the Foundation as he steps down from his role as Director. 

Dr Hambleton was President of the AMA Queensland Foundation for more than a decade where he made an incredible impact on Queenslanders in need. 

Thanks to Dr Hambleton, the Foundation has grown to what it is today – in not only funds raised, but also the vast array of projects undertaken and extensive marketing that has occurred to put the Foundation on the map. 

“As doctors we see people in genuine need falling through the cracks in the system,” said Dr Hambleton. 

“Sometimes, no matter how much we do individually, it is not enough so it has been an honour to make a positive difference to people in need through AMA Queensland Foundation.

“Collectively we can make a meaningful difference with much larger sums of money and therefore we can have more impact.”

During Dr Hambleton’s time with the Foundation he supported a number of charities, appeals, and initiatives including Hear and Say, the JCU Scholarship Program, Kombi Clinic, MND and ME Foundation, Far North Queensland Flood Assistance Grants, Breast Cancer Research Project and many more.  

“Being a nimble charity we can direct funds to where they are most needed; often to places overlooked by others," added Dr Hambleton.

Dr Dilip Dhupelia, Immediate Past President of AMA Queensland, is now Chair of the Foundation. 

“We are very fortunate to have had Steve Hambleton’s leadership at the Foundation over 13 years.

“I recognise how difficult it would have been to start a Foundation from ground zero and to hand over such a well-run and well recognised organisation to me and to the Board of Directors, and I recognise his leadership in making this happen,” said Dr Dhupelia. 

Dr Hambleton is currently a Chief Clinical Adviser to the Australian Digital Health Agency and chairs the Clinical Governance Committee that operates to ensure the Agency delivers programs and projects that are high quality and clinically safe. He will remain on the boards of AVANT, Mercy Community Services and the Digital Health CRC.
