Shingles vaccine supply update

Queensland Health has provided an important update regarding the ongoing availability of the Shingrix (herpes zoster) vaccine under the National Immunisation Program (NIP).

Queensland Health have advised that Queensland’s supply of NIP-funded Shingrix (herpes zoster) vaccine will be exhausted this week (15-19 April 2024).

The announcement follows Australian Government advice that further supply of Shingrix is not expected until May 2024.

In a statement to AMA Queensland, Queensland Health said it was continuing to work with the Commonwealth on Shingrix supply for eligible Queenslanders.

“Since Shingrix replaced Zostavax on the NIP on 1 November 2023, the demand seen in Queensland has been significant,” the statement said.

“This demand is no doubt a testament to you and your colleagues’ commitment to ensuring eligible patients are offered vaccination and I thank you for your continued support of the program.”
