Doctors help Beddown tackle addiction

In Australia, more than 8,000 vulnerable people sleep rough every night on the street, on benches and under bridges.

Beddown is an organisation that turns spaces that are commonly busy during the day but are vacant at night, into pop-up accommodation for the homeless.

Representatives from the AMA Queensland Foundation recently met with the CEO of Beddown, to find out how we can support their work.

We are calling for help from members to assist in the development of a tackling addictions program to help the guests of Beddown build a better life.

The aim of this program is to help guests tackle addiction issues whether it be for alcohol or other substances via but not limited to:

  • drug and alcohol testing;
  • psychology;
  • counselling;
  • motivational interviewing; and
  • cognitive behaviour therapy.

We are calling for Expressions of Interest from doctors to assist in the first instance in a consultation phase, and possibly with further involvement in the tackling addictions program.

Specialists in the fields of drug and alcohol addictions therapies, counsellors, psychiatrists and other doctors are all welcome to make contact and assist with this worthy program.

For more information or to register an expression of interest please email amaqfoundation@amaq.com.au or contact the Foundation Coordinators on 07 3872 2222.

This program is one of three areas of focus that Beddown is hoping to deliver to support their guests.

  1. Tackling addictions;
  2. Getting employment ready; and
  3. Getting accommodation ready.
