Meet a member - Dr Ian Williams

Dr Ian Williams celebrated the 75-year anniversary of his GP practice in Camp Hill with the launch of a coffee table book that captures the experiences of staff and patients between 1947 and 2022.

A project dreamed up during the worst of the COVID pandemic as a way to keep his community’s spirits up, the book highlights the social history of healthcare in a typical suburban community – with stories that will be familiar to practitioners and patients across Australia.

Dr Williams graduated in 1981 from the University of Queensland and has had a wide and deep experience of various aspects of healthcare in this state and nation.

"I have much to offer in terms of knowledge and experience to help improve the healthcare of our population," Dr Williams said.

"General practice is all about practising in the community setting, and creating order out of chaos.

"At times we refer to our non-GP specialist colleagues, but most of our work is multidisciplinary and performed outside of the hospital setting.

"Contemporary general practice is patient centred, and provides coordinated care."

Dr Williams has previously served as a GP representative on the AMA Queensland Council and learned a lot during his time in the role.

"I see the aims and values of the AMA consistent with my own and value working with like-minded individuals.

"AMA is a great advocate for patient care in this state and nationally and believe I do add value to the policy debates and advocacy the AMA is well known for."
