Submission to decriminalise certain public offences
AMA Queensland provided a submission to the inquiry into the decriminalisation of certain public offences, and health and welfare responses on 12 August 2022.
Consistent with our approach to drug law reform, AMA Queensland reiterated our support for health-based responses to alcohol and other substance abuse problems. Diverting people from the criminal justice system for minor offences such as public intoxication, begging and public urination to health treatments will benefit our most vulnerable Queenslanders and reduce the costs associated with punitive responses.
