Aged Care Quality and Safety Submission

AMA Queensland has reviewed and responded to the recommendations from the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety. Our summary of comments which are focused on ensuring comprehensive patient directed care are listed below.

  • Accreditation of GPs for RACF
  • Antipsychotics
  • Restrains – should only be used as a last resort;
  • Multidisciplinary care in aged care should be standard practice
  • ACAT and community services are poorly accessible, complex, or absent
  • Better support for GPs to provide care in RACF
  • New codes and levy’s to fund aged care
  • There should be more exercise, recreational and psychological supports in aged care

Rural and remote:

  • Hard to access specialist
  • Significant investments in telehealth and video capability in rural aged care
  • Service agreement between GPs and Aged care facilities
  • Medication management reviews
