Submission to the Queensland Parliament’s Transport and Resources Committee
The Queensland Parliamentary Transport and Resources Committee is considering changes to transport legislation in Queensland.
One of the proposed changes relates to protection from civil liability if a doctor notifies the Department of Transport and Main Roads that an individual is not medically fit to drive. At present, this protection only covers doctors if the driver holds a Queensland driver licence. The amendment would ensure that doctors are protected irrespective of the issuing jurisdiction of a driver licence, i.e. for holders of non-Queensland driver licences.
AMA Queensland supports this amendment and made a submission to the Committee confirming support for the proposed change to Section 142 (Health professional’s disclosure not breach of confidence).
