Fair Work Ombudsman’s Pay and Conditions Tool

Calculating rates of pay can be a tricky task to undertake if you are unsure of the appropriate penalty rates or allowances that should be applied to your staff’s shifts. The Fair Work Ombudsman offers a Pay and Conditions Tool (PACT) can be used by employers and employees.

The Pay and Conditions Tool is made up of four calculators for:

  • pay rates – includes penalty rates and allowances
  • shift calculations – a sum of pay rates for up to four weeks of shifts
  • annual and sick leave
  • notice and redundancy entitlements

These calculations are based on the award the employee is covered by, their classification level and their hours of work.

The shift calculator is also able to inform employers on what the appropriate weekend penalty rates are within their calculations. This helps minimise the risks of potential underpayments to staff.

These calculators are a great way to double check your thinking and are printable for your records when needed by your accountant, payroll or auditors.
