Capitation payments for GP: the New Zealand experience

The Federal Government is considering changes to the way GPs are paid, and Health Minister Peter Dutton has flagged interest in an arrangement similar to that in New Zealand, where GPs a paid through a combination of fee-for-service and capitation payments, where doctors are paid a set annual fee for each patient under their care. New Zealand Medical Association Chief Executive Lesley Clarke tells AMA TV how it works, and discusses benefits and shortcomings.
