Saluting Australia’s hardworking GPs

AMA FAMILY DOCTOR WEEK, 19- 25 July 2015

You and Your Family Doctor: the best partnership in health

Next week, July 19-25 July, is Family Doctor Week, the AMA’s annual celebration of the hard work and dedication of Australia’s GPs – the family doctors who look after the health of local communities across the nation.

AMA Family Doctor Week highlights the vital role played by local family doctors in keeping Australians healthy.

Having a trusted family doctor is good for your health. People who have an ongoing relationship with a family doctor are shown to have better health outcomes.

This year, the theme for Family Doctor Week is You and Your Family Doctor: the best partnership in health.

A feature of Family Doctor Week will be the National Press Club address by AMA President, Professor Brian Owler, on Wednesday, 22 July.

Each day of Family Doctor Week, the AMA will highlight issues affecting family doctors and their patients, and urge the Government to improve support to enable GPs to continue to serve their communities.

The AMA has produced a number of Family Doctor Week videos highlighting the important contribution that family doctors make to the health of the nation, including:

  • General Practice: More a Passion than a Job
  • Prevention and Care throughout Life
  • Plan for Pharmacists in General Practice
