AMA PRESIDENT TO OPEN ‘CRINGE THE BINGE’ NATIONAL WEEKEND OF ACTION
10.00AM (AEST), SATURDAY 10 NOVEMBER

BYRON BAY

AMA President, Dr Steve Hambleton, will this weekend officially open the ‘Cringe the Binge’ National Weekend of Action in Byron Bay.

The ‘Cringe the Binge’ campaign aims to send strong messages about the harms of binge drinking to young people ahead of Schoolies Week activities, which commence in some States from 17 November 2012.

On the first Cringe the Binge National Weekend of Action, Australians are being asked to stop and reflect on their drinking habits. More details about ‘Cringe the Binge’ – an initiative of the Byron Youth Service – can be found at www.cringethebinge.com.au

To celebrate the National Weekend of Action, there is a range of alcohol-free fun activities for young people being organised in Byron Bay.

Dr Hambleton said that Byron Bay is a popular venue for school leavers from all over the country wanting to wind down after their exams.

“The AMA congratulates the ‘Cringe the Binge’ organisers and the Byron community for showing leadership in promoting and supporting positive healthy experiences for young people in Schoolies Week,” Dr Hambleton said.

“They are using local knowledge and experience to project a strong national message about young people being able to have a good time without excessive consumption of alcohol.”
