Media Alert - Medical leaders get together to hear doctor's concerns about medical indemnity
The AMA has organised a special satellite broadcast tonight via the resources of the Rural Health Education Foundation (RHEF) to inform doctors in rural, regional and suburban Australia about the latest developments in solving Australia's medical indemnity crisis.
It is expected that an unprecedented 8000 doctors will view the two-hour broadcast. Doctors can fax in questions to be answered live by the expert panel.
The panel, to be chaired by Dr Norman Swan, includes:
- Federal Minister for Health and Ageing, Senator Kay Patterson
- AMA Federal President, Dr Kerryn Phelps
- President of the Rural Doctors Association of Australia, Dr Ken Mackey
- Provisional Liquidator of United Medical Protection (UMP), Mr David Lombe
Media are invited to attend the broadcast, but are advised that room for live viewing is limited. Still photography is possible before and after broadcast, but not during. Television cameras can have access prior to broadcast, but not during. Media interviews can be arranged prior to broadcast. Senator Patterson and Dr Phelps are expected to arrive shortly after 7.00pm for an 8.00pm start to the broadcast.
