GP Summit Canberra
A Summit to discuss the key issues affecting Australia's general practitioners and their patients will be held in Canberra on Friday 12 September, at the Australian War Memorial, Canberra.
The GP Summit is being hosted by the General Practice Representative Group that comprises the Australian Divisions of General Practice (ADGP), the Australian Medical Association (AMA), the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), and the Rural Doctors' Association of Australia (RDAA).
General practice is part of the social fabric of this nation. It currently faces significant challenges. The sustainability of the profession and its capacity to provide access to high quality primary health care for all Australians are at stake. Over 30 organisations representing doctors, nurses, practice managers, health academics, health economists and consumers will participate. The purpose of this Summit is to look for solutions to ensure the future viability of general practice, better health outcomes and access to high quality general practice services for the Australian community.
Representing the four key Australian General Practice Organisations will be:
Australian Divisions of General Practice (ADGP) Dr Rob Walters, Chair
Australian Medical Association (AMA) Dr Bill Glasson, President
Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) Professor Michael Kidd, President
Rural Doctors' Association of Australia (RDAA) Dr Ken Mackey, President
Media are invited to attend the Introduction and Session One of the Summit, between 9:00am - 9:30am, Friday 12 September. Other sessions of the Summit are closed to the media. A media conference will be held at 1.00pm.
