Formal AMA Response To the Productivity Commission's Position Paper on Australia's Health Workforce

The AMA has submitted its formal comprehensive response to the Productivity Commission's Position Paper on Australia's Health Workforce. It follows the AMA's preliminary response to the report on 29 September.

Key comments and observations from the AMA in the response include:

  • The workforce debate needs to be an honest one. The maintenance of quality standards and year-on-year improvements to quality standards cannot be guaranteed as a precondition of the conduct of this support for clinical teams is qualified by the need for absolutely clear lines of responsibility to the most senior and experienced clinical practitioner who bears the ultimate responsibility for any decision affecting the health outcomes for patients.
