Dr Steve Hambleton to serve third term as AMA President

AMA President, Dr Steve Hambleton, a Brisbane GP, will be elected unopposed at the AMA National Conference later this month to serve a third term as President.

AMA Vice President, Professor Geoffrey Dobb, the Director of Critical Care at Royal Perth Hospital, will also serve a third term in his role, with no other nominations being received at close of nominations today.

There will be an election for the position of Chairman of Council.  The candidates are current Chairman, Dr Roderick McRae, an anaesthetist from Victoria, and Dr Iain Dunlop, Canberra ophthalmologist and current member of the AMA Executive Council.

Dr Elizabeth Feeney, an anaesthetist from NSW and current member of the AMA Executive Council, is the only nomination received for the position of Treasurer.  The current Treasurer, Adelaide GP Dr Peter Ford, is not seeking re-election.

There is, however, the possibility of an election for Treasurer should the unsuccessful candidate for Chairman of Council choose to stand for election as Treasurer.

Final nominations are as follows:
