Dr Peter Garcia-Webb

AMA President, Dr Andrew Pesce, said today that the AMA Executive Council has regretfully accepted the resignation of their colleague, AMA Federal Treasurer, Dr Peter Garcia-Webb.

Dr Garcia-Webb is standing down for personal reasons.

Dr Pesce said Dr Garcia-Webb has been a loyal, hardworking and innovative servant of the AMA and the medical profession for many years.

“We will miss Peter’s policy acumen, canny administrative skills, and quirky humour very much,” Dr Pesce said.

“He has been a vital member of the AMA Executive and AMA Federal Council since I was elected President in May this year, and his friendship and sage advice will be sorely missed.

“Peter served with me on the AMA Medical Professional Indemnity Taskforce during a period of potential crisis for the medical profession and the health system and he showed great tenacity and determination to find a positive outcome for doctors and the community.

“For this hard work and dedication, Peter shared in the AMA President’s Award in 2003 for his outstanding contribution towards the objectives of the Association.

“On behalf of all at the AMA, I wish him well as he gets to spend less time travelling and more time with family and friends in his home town of Perth.”

Dr Garcia-Webb was first elected to AMA Federal Council in 2002.  He was elevated to the Executive Council in 2007, and he became Federal Treasurer in May 2009.

The AMA Federal Council will elect a new Treasurer when it meets in Canberra on 6-7 November.
