Dr Mukesh Haikerwal To Be Next Federal AMA President

AMA Vice President and Melbourne GP, Dr Mukesh Haikerwal, will take over as Federal AMA President when Dr Bill Glasson's two-year term ends in a little over a fortnight.

At the close of nominations at 2.00pm today for the positions of President, Vice President, Chairman of Council and Treasurer, Dr Haikerwal was the sole nomination for President.

In accordance with Standing Orders, Dr Haikerwal will be duly elected as President of the Federal AMA, effective from the close of National Conference on Sunday 29 May 2005.

The following nominations were received:

President:

Dr Mukesh Haikerwal (Vic)

Vice President:

Dr John Harrison (NSW)

Dr Peter Woodruff (Qld)

Dr Choong-Siew Yong (NSW)

Chairman of Council:

Dr David Cooper (NSW)

Dr Dana Wainwright (Qld)

Treasurer:

Dr Rosanna Capolingua (WA)

Dr Mason Stevenson (Qld)

There will be elections for the positions of Vice President, Chairman of Council and Treasurer.

Standing Orders provide that any candidate who has not been successful for the position for which they have nominated may nominate for any subsequent position.

All delegates to National Conference are eligible to vote.
