Dr Kerryn Phelps, Health Editor, Peter Phelps, Actor, with Tracey Grimshaw, Channel Nine, 'Today'

GRISHAW: Asthma claims hundreds of lives in Australia each year, and the never ending work of public education is being given a boost now by a national fund raising campaign. Well, this morning we're meeting two people who know a great deal about asthma, actor, Peter Phelps who has lived with the condition since he was a child, and his sister, who happens to be 'Today' Health Editor, Dr Kerryn Phelps. Good morning to you both.

P. PHELPS: Good morning.

K.PHELPS: Good morning.

GRIMSHAW: Peter, how severe is your asthma?

P.PHELPS: It's was much more severe as a child, through self management, and sport, I've managed it myself and it's not as severe as it was.

GRIMSHAW: How bad was it? I mean, you were just telling me in the commercial break, awful.

P.PHELPS: Yeah, I was hospitalised quite a bit as a child. I spent the opening of the Sydney Opera House in 1973 in a hospital bed. I remember it, distinctively.

K.PHELPS: Two Christmas's in a row. You had a burst lung.

P.PHELPS: Yes, I had a burst lung through what was called surgical

P.PHELPS: Sometimes at work if it is a puffy scene it's fine, you use it, then run to the wings and get the puffer, but it's not the most helpful thing.

GRIMSHAW: I think that's taking method acting a little too far, isn't it? Alright, well it is a good cause, and I think we have thrashed it out this morning, thank you for being with us, both of you.
