Dr Kerryn Phelps, AMA President - Radio 3AW

MCCALLUM: Joining us now is Dr Kerryn Phelps, the AMA President, who's had a word or two in her time with Dr Wooldridge. Dr Phelps, thank you for joining us.

PHELPS: Good afternoon.

MCCALLUM: What's your reaction to his resignation?

PHELPS: I'm a little surprised at the timing, I'm not surprised that Dr Wooldridge is moving on from politics because he had indicated that to me even quite recently. But I'm obviously surprised at today's timing.

MCCALLUM: Are you glad to see him go?

PHELPS: I'm neither glad nor sad, I think if you'd asked me that question a few months ago--

MCCALLUM: But you're saying that's … your relationship has improved dramatically?

PHELPS: Yes, it has--

MCCALLUM: It's amazing isn't it, when, just over a lunch and as you say, the Prime Minister's intervention it can just change things literally overnight?

PHELPS: It did change things overnight, and I think that the Minister saw that … that I personally, and the AMA Executive and Secretariat generally are actually very reasonable people to deal with, provided you're prepared to listen.

MCCALLUM: Okay then, thank you very much Dr Kerryn Phelps, AMA President.
