AMA's leadership election underway

The Australian Medical Association (AMA) has announced its timetable for its member elections and awards nominations.

The election of the new AMA President and Vice President will take place during the AMA National Conference to be held in Sydney from 29-31 July 2022.

Nominations of candidates seeking election as AMA President and Vice President open on 17 June and close at noon on 15 July.

Nominations for election of AMA members to Federal Council opened on 8 April and close on 6 May. AMA Members may nominate for election in the following categories:

  • Practice Groups of General Practitioners, Private Specialist Practice, Public Hospital Doctors, Doctors in Training and Rural Doctors.
  • Speciality Groups of Anaesthetists, Dermatologists, Emergency Physicians, Obstetrician-Gynaecologists, Ophthalmologists, Orthopaedic Surgeons, Paediatricians, Pathologists, Physicians, Psychiatrists, Radiologists and Surgeons.
  • Ordinary Members of any doctor in any speciality, craft group or career stage.

AMA members have also been invited to nominate colleagues for a range of awards, including Excellence in Health Care, Women in Medical Leadership and Diversity in Medicine. Nominations for these awards close on 17 June.

All award recipients, including the AMA Gold Medal and AMA President’s Award, will be announced at the AMA National Conference.
