AMA Awards Women's Health Award

Dr Elizabeth Hindmarsh from Glebe, NSW is the winner of the AMA Women's Health Award for 2005.

Dr Hindmarsh's achievements were recognsised during the opening ceremony of the AMA National Conference in Darwin today.

The Women's Health Award is presented to a person who has made a major contribution to women's health in Australia.

This may have been achieved through the promotion of public health initiatives, health awareness campaigns, contributing to the community needs as a health care provider, and contributing to improving health care services in any field of women's health.

Dr Elizabeth Hindmarsh has developed a reputation as a pioneer in the field of Women's Health.

Through networking and building links between key stakeholder organisations, Dr Hindmarsh has promoted the role of general practice to the wider health sector, especially in areas of women's health and public health.

From her early career in Family Planning, Dr Hindmarsh has been involved in education, training, research and public health programs in women's health for many years at all levels.

Major achievements have been in the promotion of best practice management in such difficult areas as women's health, domestic violence and helping survivors of childhood abuse.

She has developed a reputation for her unflagging commitment to dealing with these issues in a professional effective manner that has been held in high esteem by her professional colleagues and the broader community.
