AMA Awards Awards To State AMAs

During the opening ceremony of the AMA's National Conference in Darwin today, AMA President, Dr Bill Glasson made special presentations to recognise the advocacy and member services work of the State AMA organisations.

The State and Territory AMAs are asked each year to nominate for Awards in the categories - Best Public Health Campaign, Best State Publication, Best Lobby project and Best State Website.

The winners this year are:

Best Public Health Campaign - AMA Queensland - "Kidz GP Campaign"

AMA Queensland implemented a campaign to educate Queensland children in an innovative manner about healthy eating and exercise and at the same time elevating AMAQ's profile as an active public health advocate.

Best State Publication - AMA Western Australia - 'Medicus'

Best Lobby Campaign - AMA Western Australia - "Passive Smoking Campaign"

The AMA WA campaign aimed to reduce passive smoking and influence Government to take decisive action to ban smoking in all hotels and clubs, and used a clever combination of public health publicity around the health of babies, targeted political messages, and the use of scientific results from testing students exposed to cigarette smoke in a popular hotel.

Best State Website - Queensland

Dr Glasson praised the high quality of work being undertaken by all the State and Territory AMAs on behalf of their members and patients.
