AMA Awards 2007 Excellence in Health Care

AMA President, Dr Mukesh Haikerwal, last night announced this year's Excellence in Health Care Award had been given to a general practice specialist who has worked tirelessly to improve standards of education, public health, and access to quality health care.

The Excellence in Health Care Award is made to an individual who has made a significant contribution to improving health or health care in Australia.

Dr Haikerwal made the announcement during a gala dinner at the AMA's annual conference in Melbourne last night.

"It gives me great pleasure to announce that the 2007 AMA Excellence in Health Care Award goes to Professor Michael Kidd," Dr Haikerwal said.

"Professor Kidd has been particularly active during the last four years - over that time, his leadership has led to major benefits to the standards of health care, education, training and research, in the field of general practice.

"He has worked hard to improve medical education and contribute to medical politics, and has been involved in public health projects and awareness-raising.

"People in rural and remote areas, Indigenous Australians, people living in areas of disadvantage, and other people with special health care needs have all enjoyed the benefits of Professor Kidd's passion and dedication."
