AMA Appoints Interim Secretary General

Mr Kerry Gallagher, AM, CEO of AMA Queensland (AMAQ), has been appointed interim Secretary General of the Federal AMA in Canberra.

The process of appointing a permanent Secretary General has commenced, following the resignation of Dr Robyn Mason.

Mr Gallagher brings with him more than a decade's experience of running AMAQ's lobbying, membership, and business operations and programs.

Kerry served with distinction in the Australian Army for almost 30 years, several of those years in Canberra, reaching the rank of Chief of Staff 1st Division.

He saw active service in Vietnam and commanded the first Australian Contingent to the United Nations Iran Iraq Military Observer Group in 1988-89.

He was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 1986 for his work in developing the Army's parachute capability.

Kerry's latest assignment is to have the Federal AMA 'fighting fit' for the 2007 Federal Election.

He commences work in the Canberra office on Monday 9 July.
