AMA 15th National Conference 2003 - City GP wins Women's Health Award

An inner-city doctor with an outstanding record at the sharp end of general practice is the 2003 winner of the AMA Women's Health Award.

She's Dr Marilyn McMurchie, a Darlinghurst, Sydney GP who has worked in her inner-city practice for over 20 years.

Dr McMurchie, who takes the award for her major contribution to women's health, is a leading international figure in women's health and other medical disciplines and is convener of the Working Party on Women and Family Medicine of the World Organisaton of Family Doctors.

One of the first GPs in Australia to provide care to large numbers of people with HIV/AIDS, she has become a national leader and educator in the general practice management of people with the disease.

Her interests and commitment are far-reaching, embracing health issues across indigenous, men's and sexual health as well as homeless youth.
