Scope of practice review
AMA Queensland provided a submission to the Commonwealth Scope of Practice Review, 'Unleashing the Potential of our Health Workforce'.
The submission highlights key issues with expanded (rather than 'full' or 'top') scopes of practice that lead to siloed models of care and risks for patient safety and public health, including clinical error, misdiagnosis, missed diagnoses, poorer health outcomes and antimicrobial resistance.
Ad-hoc and unilateral changes to scopes of practice also undermine proper institutional processes designed to protect patients and clinicians.
