What is the Committee of Doctors in Training?

The AMA Queensland Committee of Doctors in Training (CDT) works to represent doctor in training interests within AMA Queensland and externally. We focus on working to build a sense of community to help support doctors in training and providing a voice for doctors in training when advocating at the state and national level. Through our hospital representatives, we also work with doctors in training experiencing issues within their local workplace to help address issues and raise their concerns while managing the power differential inherent in medical training.

In 2021 some of our wins were a commitment from Queensland Health to not alter registrar term changes in the future, escalating issues through our union partner (ASMOFQ) to ensure appropriate access to PPE and fit testing for N95 masks, and working to support our members facing issues such as bullying and harassment at work.

The CDT has a new look for 2022! We have restructured so get even more doctors in training involved in issues that we know many of our members are passionate about. This year we will have six Special Interest Groups (SIGs) which will cover topics such as industrial relations, wellbeing, rural and remote medicine, digital health, education, and sustainability. This will be in addition to our hospital representative who will continue to help us address local issues.

At its core, the CDT is a community of passionate doctors in training who work together to try and address many of the problems we know exist in medicine and medical training. We create change only through the strength of our membership, and the involvement of a large number of dedicated people.
