How opening your staff up to benefits can help retain and secure your team

 

During periods of uncertainty, particularly now throughout a pandemic, it is crucial to keep your staff happy in order to maintain and run your business. This can be implemented to retain your current staff members or when on-boarding new employees to attract good talent.

Benefits for employees can come in multiple forms. Examples of these can include: 

  • Intrinsic - relating to psychological rewards that impact and benefit the individuals psyche and internal motivation. 
  • Extrinsic rewards - which are the financial or tangible rewards and benefits. 

A major factor in what will work for you and your team will be dependent on the type of employees you have in your organisation as there is no one-size-fits-all. 

What are employee benefits?
Employee benefits, commonly known as fringe benefits or perks are provided to an employee in addition to their normal wages. 

In recent time, health industry workers have seen an increase in hostility and uneasiness when dealing with third parties, including patients. This has been particularly evident around COVID-19 restrictions and vaccinations. It has all put added pressure on staff and created an unhappy environment in some practices. 

Having the right benefits in place will help ensure workers feel valued and appreciated for their hard work. Some benefits to consider could include wellness offerings like a gym membership or free fruit for staff in the lunch room, or monetary benefits like a yearly bonus or a paid day off on the employee’s birthday; as examples.
