Booster Update

The recent update to reduce the interval for COVID-19 vaccine booster shots to three months has been recognised as a sensible development as the Omicron peak approaches in Queensland. AMA Queensland’s President Professor Chris Perry says that “This is consistent with other states and we have the medical evidence to support this timeframe,”

He further goes on to comment that “These boosters should be prioritised for critical essential workers, including those in health care and vulnerable people such as aged care residents.” And encourages everyone who is now eligible for a booster, to make an appointment. Queensland is close to the 90% double dosed figure, but with the international borders opening, it is inevitable that we are going to see more and more cases, particularly of the Omicron strand. Chris goes on to note that “The best way to save lives and prevent our fragile hospital system from becoming overwhelmed is for everyone to be vaccinated to the fullest extent.”
