Meningococcal ACWY vaccines update

The Department of Health and Aged Care has shared program advice on the upcoming 1 July 2024 change to meningococcal ACWY vaccines under the National Immunisation Program (NIP).

From 1 July 2024, the meningococcal ACWY vaccine, MenQuadfi®, will be added to the NIP adolescent schedule. It will be free for adolescents aged 14 to 16 years through school vaccination programs and health services including pharmacies, and those aged 15 to 19 years on catch-up schedules.

Nimenrix® will continue to be administered as a free vaccine through the NIP to children aged 12 months and people with specified medical conditions.

It is mandatory to report all meningococcal ACWY vaccines you have administered to the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR).

For more information about meningococcal vaccines and the NIP, visit health.gov.au/immunisation. Further information regarding the change will be made available on the department’s website from 1 July 2024.

Health professionals and stakeholders are encouraged to subscribe to the departments email list to receive the latest NIP updates.
