AMA plan for improving access to rural general practice

The AMA has developed a plan for improving access to rural general practice. The plan makes key recommendations to improve access to health care for rural communities and to address medical workforce shortages in rural areas.

The plan outlines steps to improve access to general practitioners (GPs) and rural generalists (RGs) care in rural communities along three pillars:

  1. Creating healthy communities
  1. Providing opportunities to train locally
  1. Supporting vibrant general practices.

The plan creates a platform for discussion. The AMA looks forward to discussing the solutions outlined in this plan with all stakeholders to identify areas for implementation and collaboration to improve access to rural general practice for rural communities.
