ATAGI Statement on clotting conditions

The Department of Health website also has the latest ATAGI statement for health care providers on the suitability of COVID-19 vaccination in people with history of clotting conditions.

This provides an update on the current evidence and the ATAGI recommendation to defer, as a precaution, any COVID-19 vaccinations for people who have a history of the following rare conditions:

1. people with a confirmed medical history of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST); and/or

2. people with a confirmed medical history of heparin induced thrombocytopenia (HIT). HIT is an immune-mediated complication of treatment with heparin that affects platelet function. A HIT-like mechanism is being investigated as a potential, but unconfirmed, pathway to CVST post COVID-19 vaccination.

This statement can be found here.
